Tourist and military police are always close to all tourist sites, and Egyptians themselves are generally safe and try to protect solo female travelers. In general, Egypt is safer for solo travelers than other places such as Greece, Italy or Spain. Please be sure to take the same precautions you would take anywhere else and do not tend to walk alone in deserted areas: take a cab to your residence! You may receive some invitations, all of them innocent, which you should not accept from strangers.
You can buy most things in Egypt, but there are a few things you should bring if you want to, such as sunscreen, a full hat to protect your face from the sun, a lock for your luggage, and any medications you take, except, of course, the forbidden ones. Egyptian pharmacies are very good, but the medications may have names unfamiliar to you. A pair of comfortable walking shoes is a must for touring the ancient Egyptian sites. The best time to visit Egypt is autumn (September – November) and spring (February – April). The climate is relatively cold from December to January, except in the south, where the winter is very mild. Summer should sometimes be avoided for climatic reasons. Cairo is hot and attractive in most months from June to August, and most residents vacation during this period, if possible. Upper Egypt and even the Red Sea coast can be uncomfortable during the summer.
